What are the PLUM and HATS?
The PLUM and HATS are simple checklists. They help health and early childhood workers ask family the right questions to find out how bub’s listening and yarning skills are growing.

Listening and yarning are skills bub learns as they grow, from family and others around them. The more practice bub has, the easier they grow these skills up. They are skills for life: children need them for school and beyond.

Ear and hearing trouble can make it hard to grow these skills. Checking listening and yarning skills is a way of finding ear, hearing or talking trouble early and working out what further help is needed.
